I was out with some never-JW friends last night, among which only a couple knew of my JW past.
There was one young and lovely couple there, both of them in their late 20s. They're just a couple of young adults making their way in an uncertain world.
It suddenly struck me that these two young'ns have never been exposed to the idea that DEATH and SUFFERING are not natural facets of the material world. It made me realize just how out-of-step i was during my cult years with the normal realities that most people are (at least unconsciously) able to accept without experiencing crippling mental distress.
Life is full of suffering, and suffering to a large extent makes the world what it is. You can't remove it as a feature - nothing makes sense without it. The "living forever" part of the JW belief system is really just "not dying".
